An officer from the Scarsdale Police Department was traveling east on Mamaroneck Road at approximately 5:50 a.m. when he came to a stop at a red light at the intersection of Palmer Avenue.
Police said that the officer spotted two vehicles stopped at the intersection in front of him for an extended period of time - even after the light turned green.
The officer proceeded to drive around the two vehicles, at which point he saw that one of the drivers, Port Chester resident Orlando Villa Vargas, was sleeping in the vehicle with the engine running and the car in gear. There was also an open container inside the vehicle.
Villa Vargas was taken into police custody and charged with misdemeanor counts of aggravated DWI with a blood alcohol content greater than .18 percent; aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle and driving while intoxicated. He was also cited for having an open container in the vehicle.
Following his processing, Villa Vargas was released and is scheduled to appear in Scarsdale Justice Court at a later date to respond to the charges.
